YMCA Summer Explorers is a fun and exciting Camp like experience for your preschooler!  Each week contains two, two day sessions.  You may choose to attend on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10AM – Noon where the program will be conducted from the Cadillac Area YMCA Teen Center on beautiful Lake Cadillac.  If you choose to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM – Noon you will enjoy the program located at Camp Torenta on beautiful Lake Mitchell. Each session includes special themed activities along with games, arts and crafts, songs, and snacks!

Summer Explorer Program Notes

 

  • Leading our Preschool Summer Explorers Program is Naomi Sikkema. Naomi has been with the YMCA since 2005. Serving as a camp counselor in 2005 and 2006. Last year she was the assistant program director for Summer Explorers. She is employed at the Joyful Heart Learning Center. Naomi is attending Baker College in Cadillac working on an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

  • Program takes place rain or shine.
  • Children may get wet and/or dirty. Please dress accordingly.
  • Children should come dressed for the weather. Sunscreen should be applied before arriving at the program site.
  • PLEASE inform us if your child has an allergies or special needs.
  • Parents may stay on-site during the program.
  • The Monday and Wednesday session is held at the YMCA Teen Center located at 601 Chestnut St. This is across the street from the Cadillac HS football field in the Cadillac Community Center on Lake Cadillac.
  • The Tuesday and Thursday session is held at Camp Torenta which is located on Lake Mitchell at 730 South Lake Drive, Cadillac MI. Please contact the YMCA office for more specific directions to the program sites.

  • FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: It is the YMCA’s belief that no one be denied the benefit of a YMCA program because of financial need.  Through the generosity of many caring donors we offer assistance for those with demonstrated need.  Call for an application form to see if you qualify (231) 775-3369.

$40 per 2-day session

*** Sign up for three or more sessions and each session is $25 for YMCA Program Members and $35 for Community Members ***

Each Summer Explorer will make a personalized “Book of Memories” to bring home at the end of their session(s)!

This week we will talk about different animals and their habitats, where they live, what they eat, when they sleep, and much more. We will be making animal masks and going on a safari to see what animals we actually can spot in our area.

During this week, we will focus on the good ole USA. We will be making flags, and having red, white, and blue dress up day and having a parade of our own with musical instruments.

This week the focus will be on the weather. We are going to have an umbrella day, complete with splashing in puddles. We will discuss the weather and the seasons, what you can do outside in each season and how the weather can make us feel. Leaves

This week we will be playing in the sun and surf, building sand castles and participating in water activities. This week we will really need the sunscreen on.

This week we will make sidewalk paint and paint sidewalks. We will experience colors and art working with clay. Snack time will involve creating our own mini pizzas.
